The "ZIA
Connection" is a dedicated system of amateur radio repeaters
stretching from
El Paso, TX on the East to Quartzite and Yuma, AZ on the West. The
first
realization of the dream of N5IA was started in July of 1982 with the
linking of Jack's Peak, near Silver City, NM with Guthrie Peak, near
Safford, AZ. A link to Mt. Lemmon, near Tucson, AZ was installed three
weeks later. The system eventually expanded to include repeaters on
mountaintops in the vicinity of: El Paso, TX, Alamagordo, NM, Truth or
Consequences, NM, Albuquerque, NM, Showlow, AZ, Globe, AZ, Phoenix, AZ,
Quartzite, AZ, and Yuma, AZ.
Basically a two meter system with all
linking
done by full duplex UHF point to point transmitters and receivers, it
includes a simulcast 220 Mhz machine at Globe, AZ and a simulcast 440
Mhz
machine at Tucson, AZ.
